Welcome to FSM

FSM serves as an evangelical Christian church and community center to the Bajo Tejares district of San Ramón, a very poor community of displaced Nicaraguans and Costa Ricans which is rife with poverty, drugs, and violence.

Children attend the mission before or after school for regular programs. This includes time reading, individual tutoring help in English and Math, supervised playtime, and a variety of special seasonal events. Example of special programs include a Math Olympics and Culture Day where students learn about different countries, their foods, and traditions.

In addition to the children’s programs, adult classes have been an integral part of building trust and community among the men and women of Bajo Tejares. These include English classes, computer classes, baking and sewing classes, and a MomCo group led by church leaders.

Serving this community by providing a wide range of educational, recreational, and spiritual opportunities for both children and adults is proving to have a major impact on their lives. Through partnership with La Viña San Ramón and the many ministry activities the church offers for all ages, God’s love and grace are proclaimed into the Bajo community; a literal light on a hill overlooking a valley of darkness.

Since FSM began supporting both children and adults, the cycle of poverty and despair has begun to break. Employment and literacy rates are up, and families are beginning to look to the future with hope.
